OLIVER

Director: Karl Picton

Producer: Ralh Boyce

Oliver combined our Junior and Adult groups on stage - a first for the group - which meant that children's parts, like Oliver, are played  by children while adults are cast in parts like, Fagin, Bill Sykes and Nancy. Oliver' is a musical by Lionel Bart, based on the Victorian novel by Charles Dickens which highlighted the plight of street urchins on London's streets during that era. This may sound a sad story but in fact Oliver' is a celebration with amusing dialogue and songs including 'Food, glorious food', 'Consider yourself' and 'As long as he needs me'. Oliver was great entertainment for all the family.

Holmer Green Players last production was a joyous song and dance reminder of hit songs from each of the eras, from the 1940s to the 2000s, entitled Jukebox Journey. The show will include popular songs like ‘In the mood’ (1940s), ‘Jailhouse Rock’ (1950s), ‘Hey Jude’ (1960s), ‘Dancing in the street’ (1970s), ‘Billy Jean’ (1980s) and ‘One and only’ (1990s) each combined with the choreography that reflects the original song or is typical of when it was recorded.

Twenty-two songs covering the whole period were combined with lighting effects to create the mood of the decade. This show really was a ‘must see’ for all those who have seen the Players previous song and dance productions – and anyone who loves the dance music of the last seventy years!
